CEC Lightning Talks

CEC Lightning Talks is an opportunity to present a three- to five-minute pitch about your work and to discover what your colleagues are working on. These talks provide a regular platform for us all to stay connected and inspired by each other's work.

Here are some questions you can use as a basis when preparing your pitch. Please note that Lightning Talks are an opportunity for all staff to present their work, not just researchers.

  • "Who are you? (Name, working title, briefly describe your working/research background)
  • What is your current work at CEC? If you are a researcher, try to answer the following questions:
    • What is your research field and what disciplines does it interact with?
    • What kind of issues are you addressing?
    • What questions do you hope to explore and clarify with your research?
    • What kind of tools do you use? (NB this is not a research seminar, so please be brief and non-technical)
  • Who are you working with?
  • How is your work/expertise useful for colleagues at CEC? How can you help your colleagues?
  • How can your colleagues help you? (e.g., simplify your work if you are a non-researcher)
  • Are you looking for collaborations?

A template to use as a starting point is also available for download as a .pptx (link below). The template offers ideas and suggested formatting for your pitch; however, we encourage you to present without the aid of slides if you prefer a more direct approach.

Just remember, three to five minutes goes by quickly, so keep it brief and engaging.
