CEC Research Seminar with Jochen Fründ

Join us on 28 March and hear from Jochen Fründ of the University of Hamburg!
How dynamic species interaction networks illuminate biodiversity change and its functional consequences.
Environmental change is putting ecosystems and biodiversity at risk. Biodiversity is important for ecological functioning, which is often mediated by interspecific interactions. Ecological networks can describe and identify the mechanisms of biodiversity-functioning relationships. Also, explicitly recognizing how species communities and interactions change over time can reveal unexpected mechanisms of how biodiversity affects function and provide insights into the link between environmental changes and ecological functioning. I will explain my approaches to analyzing dynamic species interaction networks and discuss applications to a range of plant and animal diversity effects on functioning. In particular, I will focus on interactions between flowering plants and pollinators, between trees and herbivores, and between insects and their natural enemies.
