Research
My doctoral research significantly contributed to the UN Agenda for 2030, addressing several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Climate Action (13), No Hunger (2), and Reduced Inequalities (10), along with No Poverty (1), Good Health (3), Gender Equality (5), Clean Water and Sanitation (6), Life Below Water (14), Life On Land (15), and Peace and Justice (16). Focused on sea level rise (SLR), the study emphasized adaptation and mitigation relevant to SDGs 13, 1, 2, 3, and 5. Additionally, it explored the impact of SLR-induced saline intrusion and land erosion on SDGs 3, 6, 14, and 15. My research also delved into climatic fairness and justice, aligning with SDGs 14, 15, 7, and 16. It employed advanced tools and techniques to enhance adaptation, mitigation, and sustainability.
Current postdoctoral research
My current postdoctoral research focuses on the impact of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) on both urban and rural environments, aiming to boost community empowerment, sustainable development, and governance. This study explores four main impact goals: enhancing nature-society dialogue, fostering sustainable urban-regional development, strengthening NBS governance, and advancing NBS policies at both European and international levels. Key activities include mapping and characterizing 30 diverse naturescapes and quantifying their contributions to climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and community sustainability. Furthermore, my research assesses how the benefits of these naturescapes are distributed across different socio-economic contexts and identifies governance factors that influence outcomes. My objectives involve evaluating ecological and socio-political configurations, exploring trade-offs and synergies, and understanding value perceptions within these environments. Utilizing 12 case studies, I will employ advanced methods to analyze the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural benefits, and use climate models to develop inclusive valuation methods.
Additionally, my research will investigate how NBS can provide coastal protection globally. My postdoctoral research is also aligned with SDG goals 1 to 17.
